An exhibition devoted to the wife of A.M.Gorky opens in Nizhny Novgorod with contribution of Banca Intesa
December 15, 2017, Nizhny Novgorod. Commemorating the 150th anniversary of A.M. Gorky on December 19, 2017 a new exhibition dedicated to Ekaterina Pavlovna Peshkova will be opened in the museum-apartment of the writer in Nizhny Novgorod. The project was supported by Banca Intesa.
The name of the exposition originated from a letter written by A.M. Gorky to this amazing woman: "With a deep sense of gratitude and sincere respect, I kiss your hand. It seems to me - I am the first who is treated by a woman in such a way as you are treating me".
The exhibition "I kiss your hand" is based on unique materials stored in the museum's archives. Among the exhibits are documents, personal belongings, as well as photographs of Ekaterina Pavlovna and her relatives, starting with the unique works of the Nizhny Novgorod photographers A.O. Karelin and M.P. Dmitrieva, and ending with the photos linked to her activities during the period of creation of the writers’ museum-apartment in Nizhny Novgorod (then the city of Gorky). Particular attention will be paid to the facts of the biography of E.Peshkova, unknown until recently, for example, her work in the International Red Cross, which she led off from 1917 to 1937. At the opening of the exhibition, fragments of the documentary film "Dear Ekaterina Pavlovna", directed by V. Miletina, created for "Russia-Culture" TV channel, will be screened.
Larisa Motorina, the Director of the State Museum of A.M. Gorky: "I am sure that the 150th anniversary of the birth of A.M. Gorky will become one of the most ambitious events of Russia's cultural life in 2018. The plans of the Nizhny Novgorod Literary Museum include dozens of truly unique projects, some of which became possible thanks to friends and partners of the museum. And it seems to me very symbolic that we will open one of the most beautiful and warm expositions with the support of Banca Intesa. Maxim Gorky is not only a great Russian writer, but also one of those who was enchanted by the expanses of southern Italy, and spoke of Italy as of a second homeland."
Sergei Ivanov, Director of the Privolzhsky Regional Center: "Banca Intesa is part of one of Europe's largest banking groups, Intesa Sanpaolo (Italy), and always takes a special interest in projects aimed at developing Russian-Italian dialogue in the cultural sphere . The opening of the exposition "I kiss your hand» is the first stage of a cooperative program realized between the State Museum of A.M. Gorky and Banca Intesa. Within the framework of the joint project, it is planned to hold an "Open Day" at the State Museum of A.M. Gorky, where everyone can get acquainted with the unique exhibits of the museum, telling about the life and work of A.M. Gorky."All press-releases
